Jam El Mar came to the studio. One half of Jam & Spoon, one of the people who genuinely defined what German techno sounds like and we sat down and built a track together using nothing but one synth ?️
There's a lovely coincidence here: Martin at Martinic asked us both to make presets for the Prodigy, separately, without either of us knowing. So we started by playing each other's patches, and ended up making a whole early-90s techno arrangement out of them.
Along the way Jam explains things you only learn from twenty-five years in a booth — where the tempo actually sits for each style, why the kick is the fundament of everything, and why the same hi-hat says "house" in one context and "techno" in another.
