How to Play the "Fortunate Son" Intro by CCR
The intro to Fortunate Son is a great one to learn on guitar, and what makes it even more useful is that it comes straight out of G Mixolydian, which means you can pull those same moves into any blues rock jam in G.
The whole thing is built on a descending line on the B string, and once you harmonize it with the D string underneath, it gets that thick, gritty sound CCR is known for. The intervals stay consistent as you move down, so once the shape clicks it feels very natural to navigate.
The real value is taking those double stop ideas and using them as a launching pad when you're improvising. G Mixolydian sits right in that sweet spot between blues and rock, and this intro hands you a ready-made vocabulary for it. Try some of those ideas out!
