Sick of Scales? Try This E7 Arpeggio Trick
If your solos are starting to feel like you're just running up and down the same scale, try treating an arpeggio the way you'd treat a scale. Same concepts, sequences, patterns, repeated motifs, but now you're only hitting chord tones and the whole thing sounds more intentional and harmonically aware.
I'm working with an E7 arpeggio here, and the move that really makes it come alive is approaching the major third from a half step below every time you land on it. That leading tone gives the phrase a bluesy, vocal quality that a straight scale run just doesn't have.
The best part is you don't have to abandon your regular blues licks. Drop this in between them and it adds a whole new dimension to your soloing without having to learn a new scale. Mess around with that one!
