Israel orders strikes on south Beirut as forces push deeper into Lebanon
People are fleeing the Lebanese capital after Israel warned of new air strikes but Donald Trump has claimed Hezbollah and Israel have agreed not to attack each other.
After a "very good call" with Hezbollah, Trump said they had agreed "all shooting would stop".
He also spoke to Benjamin Netanyahu, after which Trump said there would be no Israeli troops going to the Lebanese capital.
There's been no comment yet from Israel or Hezbollah, but Israel's prime minister had ordered his military to bomb southern Beirut.
Benjamin Netanyahu also ordered Israeli troops to push beyond the buffer zone in southern Lebanon.
Over the weekend Israeli troops seized the medieval Beaufort Castle, north of the Litani River, giving Israel a strategic vantage point over the south, and now troops are continuing to move 10 kilometres north towards the Zahrani River.
Evacuation orders have been issued for residents living south of that area.
It follows a pattern seen in Gaza too, with Netanyahu last week saying he'd ordered his troops to advance beyond the 'yellow line' agreed with the US last October, which gave Israel around 53% control of Gaza to now claim 70% of the territory.
