Police in Manchester have admitted that there was a "missed opportunity" to stop the man shot dead as he attacked the Heaton Park synagogue last October.

When he carried out the attack in which two people died, Jihad al-Shamie was already on police bail - accused of attempted rape.
But although police had taken his mobile when he was arrested, they didn't examine it at the time.
Today they said it contained substantial evidence of an 'extremist mindset’, that would have triggered further investigation.
