In Spain, military firefighters have been battling the country's largest wildfire in recent history as flames swept through vast rural areas in the central-western Ávila‎ region.

The wildfire has devastated more than 50,000 hectares of countryside in Ávila‎.
Thick smoke has also blanketed towns across the eastern Castellon region, forcing around 16,000 people from their homes.
25 firefighting aircraft and more than 450 firefighters have been battling to contain a blaze that has spread across a perimeter of nearly 50 kilometres.
