Why Steel Hulls Create Condensation Risk
A general-cargo ship or bulk carrier is effectively a large steel enclosure packed with cargo. Its hull, bulkheads, hatch covers, and deckhead all gradually take on the temperature of the sea surrounding the vessel.
The steel changes temperature far faster than the air and cargo trapped inside. Once the ship moves from one climate into another, that mismatch creates the conditions for moisture to become a serious cargo problem.
