Most players find their home in the 12th fret pentatonic box and stay there. Which is great, there are a million licks in that spot. But knowing how to travel from the open position all the way up to that home row changes everything.
The run starts on the open low E and climbs string by string using just your index and third finger the whole way. There are slides built into almost every string change, which keeps the motion smooth and connected rather than feeling like you're jumping between boxes. The one tricky moment is the B string, which sits a half step off from the other intervals, so the fingering shifts slightly there.
Once you can make that journey from open E up to the 12th fret in one fluid motion, the neck stops feeling like a series of separate positions. Give it a shot!
