The dominant seven chord is really a whole family of sounds, not just one voicing. F7, F9, F13, the sus four version, the James Brown nine chord, they all live in the same bluesy funky world and can be swapped in and out freely depending on what the moment calls for.
Starting from the classic C shape F7, each voicing just adds another color on top. The nine gives it that bright, snappy James Brown quality. Add the pinky up a whole step and you've got the thirteen. Barre across with the index in a different position and the whole texture shifts again.
The point is these aren't separate chords to memorize in isolation. They're all variations on one sound, and mixing them together in real time is where the funk and blues magic actually happens.
