Around 1,600 young Danes began a new 11-month military conscription on Monday.

The scheme was previously four months, but was extended as part of Denmark’s accelerated defence build-up driven by the war in Ukraine and rising tensions in the Arctic.
It will see a company of conscripts deploy to Greenland, with another group specialising in operating drones.
The new intake included Denmark’s 19-year-old Princess Isabella, the eldest daughter of King Frederik and Queen Mary.
