Will the Fifa World Cup be sold off? Infantino’s plan sparks fury
Gianni Infantino is trying to sell his World Cup sell-off plan to Fifa's member nations, offering them huge sums of money, despite a growing backlash.
The Fifa boss has given the organisation’s 211 member associations 53 days to sign up to his plan.
If they do, he says they'll each get up to $40 million.
His proposals to create a Fifa subsidiary, 20 per cent owned by private investors, has sparked an outcry in the football world.
European football's governing body Uefa has accused Fifa of using the sport to enrich itself and its friends.
