OBSCURE Men’s Jewelry, Pt. 2
Obscure Men's Jewelry, Part Two!
Collar Studs
Men's collars weren't always attached to their shirts! In the 19th and early 20th centuries, collars were detachable, so men used collar studs to adhere them to the shirt.
Tie Pins
Popular in the late 1800s, men would use a tie pin to keep their cravats in place, sticking the pin through the cravat and shirt front to keep things tidy.
Tie Tacks
Closely related to the tie pin, the tie tack was also designed to keep neckwear in place. The small pin would be pierced through the tie and inserted into a backing piece with a chain and T-bar. The T-bar would then be passed through a shirt buttonhole, keeping the entire assembly in place.
Trench Watches
Possibly the first modern wristwatch, naval officers would wear these as an alternative to pocket watches, freeing up their hands for operations while also providing them the ability to easily check the time.
Wristlets
Created for similar purposes to the trench watch, the wristlet was essentially a leather strap that held a standard pocket watch to one's wrist.
