How to Tie the Oriental Knot (Small Knot) - Necktie Tying
The Oriental Knot is also known as the Small Knot, because it's the smallest of all conventional necktie knots--but this little knot has incredible styling potential!
To begin, wrap the tie around your neck, seam-side up; this is contrary to how most ties are tied.
Next, let the wide end drape considerably lower than the narrow end. Place the narrow end on top of the wide, and pinch them together.
Wrap the wide end over and around the crossing point once. Push the wide end through the gap at your neck, with the seam facing away from you.
Insert the wide end into the knot, bracing with your other hand, and pull it through. If desired, create a dimple by pinching together the fabric inside the knot and pulling on the wide end. Then, tighten the entire knot.
It is best accentuated by a classic or medium spread collar. The Oriental Knot appears especially elegant when worn with collar jewelry, like a collar bar or pin.
