Traditional DE vs. Modern Cartridge Shaving: Cost Comparison
Traditional double-edged shaving versus modern cartridge shaving: a cost comparison!
Double-edged shaving (using a safety razor with replaceable blades) has a higher initial investment, but lower long-term costs. A pack of 100 blades costs around $10, depending on the brand, providing a per-blade cost of around 10 cents--and an even lower per-shave cost if you reuse blades once or twice. Also, safety razors are durable and last for years, minimizing replacement needs.
On the other hand, cartridge shaving has a lower initial cost to buy a handle, but replacement cartridges are quite expensive; cartridges typically last 5 to 10 shaves, resulting in a per-shave cost of anywhere from 75 cents to $1.50.
So, despite the initial cost, double-edged shaving is generally more cost-effective, with lower per-shave expenses and durable razors. Of course, DE shaving can also require some time to master--but the results for many men are well worth it!
