One of the most random and memorable nights of my life as a musician.
I was 21, fresh out of music school, teaching guitar and playing gigs in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My old karate sensei called out of nowhere, told me to bring my acoustic guitar and a songbook. I drove up a mountain road with no GPS, rang a doorbell, and Tracy Chapman was standing there.
We played Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Beatles, and a few of her own songs. No stage, no mics — just two guitars in a room. Still one of the highlights of my career.
This is that story.
