The "Hendrix major chord" is probably the most versatile and satisfying chord shape on the guitar. It takes something as simple as E to A major, a progression that shows up in a million songs, and makes it sound instantly fancier. The key is playing the major third as the lowest note, turning it into an inversion, then hammering on from the open E string into that little box shape on the D and G strings. Once you've got it on E, the same idea moves right to A. It's one of those shapes that just opens up your whole rhythm playing. Try it out!
