One company has just secured a £200m financial guarantee from the UK government to expand and build in Scotland’s first AI Growth Zone in North Lanarkshire.
But there’s been a backlash in local communities - and campaigners argue these hyperscale data centres will harm the environment and place huge strain on electricity and water.
