Police have confirmed that a Palestinian family died after entering the water yesterday near Shoreham, West Sussex, on Tuesday. The father, Hossam El-Khawas, died alongside his partner, Zeina Alayn, and teenage daughter, Sara El-Khawas.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham called it a tragedy and has said it is important to “remind people about the dangers of open water swimming”.
