Plans to cut jury trials scrapped
The government has dropped controversial plans to slash the number of jury trials in England and Wales and have many cases heard by a judge alone. But critics say the government's plans to reduce the massive backlog of cases still risk limiting the right to trial by jury.

Meanwhile, four days into the early release scheme the Justice Secretary Alex Norris has said that it's too soon to say how many of the prisoners who've been released early to free up places in prison have been tagged. But he said that, for the first time, the presumption would be that they would all be tagged in the end.
