Five Pro Tips For Better Piano Practice — How To Make Faster Progress On The Piano
My book, How To Really Play The Piano, which includes loads of practice tips: http://www.billspianopages.com/how-to-really
Lots of you ask me for advice on piano practice and how to practise more effectively and efficiently, so in this tutorial I'm going to go through my five top tips for getting better at practising the piano. They are:
1. Take advantage of the spacing effect by focusing on how often you play the piano, not how much;
2. Remember there's a difference between practising the piano and playing it: practice should always be challenging;
3. Don't worry too much about your progress on the piano, because it's hard to measure subjectively and in the short term;
4. Attack the problem! When you're practising, don't just whizz around the keyboard playing stuff you can play already, over and over. Instead, isolate problem areas and really focus on them;
5. Always listen and pay attention. The piano makes notes for us, so it's really easy to just zone out and press the keys without really thinking or listening to the music we're making.
Do you have any piano practice tips of your own?
