The Piano Practice Rollercoaster
Piano practice isn’t pretty — and today I’m proving it. In this video I take you through the real early-stage practice process: the hesitation, the wrong notes, the muttering, the accidental singing, and the slow, slightly painful business of getting a new piece under the fingers. I’m using the D major Prelude from Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier (Book I), but the ideas apply to any style — jazz piano, blues, pop, whatever you’re working on.
We talk about:
• Why piano practice feels harder than tutorials make it look
• How to spot the sections that actually need work
• Why singing helps (even if you can’t sing)
• How to structure those awkward first few days with a piece
• The difference between “playing through” and practising
If you’ve ever wondered why the things you learn on YouTube sound effortless in the video and absolutely not-effortless on your piano… this should help!
**Black Friday:**
