Tens of thousands of people gathered across Spain on Wednesday to protest the government’s handling of a major influx of migrants into Ceuta, the country’s tiny territory in North Africa.

Tensions have soared in the exclave after around 72,000 migrants crossed the borders in July and critics accuse the socialist Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, of abandoning residents.
Many of the migrants quickly returned home but thousands of migrants are estimated to remain in Ceuta, with political parties at odds over the exact figure.
The influx has put public services of the exclave – which has a population of 84,000 – under significant strain.
Nationwide protests were called for by city councils where opposition parties - like the conservative Partido Popular (PP) and the far-right Vox party - are popular.
The government has apologised to the residents of Ceuta and says the right-wing is exploiting the crisis.
