The Forgotten Lands, Hidden Hot Springs and Wild Horses. Destination Adventure
Sometimes the greatest adventures are the ones without a plan. Of course I leave with a rough plan, or at the very least a destination, but a slot of completely free time in between leads to the option to jump on any opportunity presented along the way. This week, that paid off perfectly. We are heading into the Chilcotin, to complete a route that we attempted last year, but couldn't complete due to a washout. From Williams Lake, there are many loop routes within the Chilcotin, each passing though some absolutely gorgeous territory and history. Most of my life, I imagined the Chilcotin to be little more than grassland, but the terrain is incredibly divers, and the wildlife is abundant. This trip brought to me some amazing experiences with wild and free range horses, old homesteads, friendly locals and of course one amazing view after the next.
It is important to educate yourself on the route you plan in the grasslands, because camp spots are limited due to the slow regrowth of the terrain. I was welcomed into each community, and had nice conversations with each person I had the pleasure to talk with, but respecting the land is incredibly important.
It is important to understand and respect culture as well. I had the pleasure of visiting some incredibly beautiful hot springs on this trip, but these locations are often of historically cultural significance. And for that reason, permission is required to access. I am very fortunate to have gotten the opportunity to enjoy so many miles of beautiful country in this trip, and I truly hope you all enjoy it with me.
