Living Quarters for Life Beyond Borders | Expedition Truck Build | Destination Adventure
Talk about a rollercoaster of a weak, but what a huge payoff at the end. Getting to see this truck coming together and finally having the living quarters mounted is a huge accomplishment. From the very beginning of this project, I was determined to use a solid fiberglass camper because I don't want to have to deal with water leaks again. It is difficult to find these old two piece campers, and unfortunately the one I found came with some very unfortunate structural damage. It is important to store a camper on a structure that properly supports the weight, and this one did not. The floor was beginning to collapse and the sides were delaminating at the bottom. This was a devastating discovery, but the folks at Stinger Welding were able to design and fabricate a cradle that will hold and support the camper. This does add weight to the rig, but it will ensure that the camper is supported and reliable for many years to come.
The trailer was another bit of pretty unfortunate news, and at this point is just going for scrap metal. I have been excited to upgrade to a larger more reliable trailer, but truthfully this was a blessing in disguise. The trailer I have had for the past two years has done well, it is a nice light weight trailer, but it really just did need some upgrades. We added a longer and larger axle, a new reach, larger tires, a spare tire mount, and fenders. This was never the plan for this new rig, but I think it will be a far better set up in the long run.
Thank you so much to Stinger Welding for all of the help on this portion of the build, and thank you to everyone for enjoying and supporting the show. I am so very excited to have this build done and get back on the road.
