Panning to Pay the Fuel Bill in Gold | Destination Adventure
The Cariboo region of BC, is well known for very rich ground, and is even home to multiple gold rushes. British Columbia, in general, has a lot of locations with a history of mass fortunes in gold taken from veins in the mountains, and concentrations in the rivers. The Fraser river, spanning 1300 km from the rockies to the Pacific Ocean, carries water from many of these rivers, and with it - Gold! You can successfully pan for gold almost anywhere along the Fraser River, but only few places will yield anything larger than gold dust. Large rivers, like the Quesnel River, will deposit large pieces of gold, and nuggets can be found at these junctions, but quickly the gold is ground down as it tumbles down the mighty Fraser. I often read comments from folks that encourage me to pan at the rivers I pass, but it is pretty challenging to find enough gold to even match half of minimum wage. Never the less, the excitement and possibility are always present. Weather or not I found my fortune, the adventure will always continue, and the arrival of spring has come just in time. My love for adventure, and curiosity for history, started here in Williams Lake so it is always a pleasure to have the time to share the beauty of my home town with you all. Unfortunately, few people actually get out and enjoy this beautiful place, but I happen to enjoy these loops, and this local history, and I am proud to share it with an audience that feels the same.
